Not interested Marsh rules out filling vacant Indian coaching job
PERTH, Australia (Reuters) -- Former Australian cricket coach and vice-captain Geoff Marsh said on Tuesday he was no longer interested in the vacant Indian coaching position. Marsh had been favored to beat other high-profile candidates, ex-New Zealand opening batsman John Wright and former Australian middle order batsman Dean Jones. Fast bowling great Kapil Dev quit as Indian coach last month in the wake of investigations into match-fixing allegations. Marsh issued a statement on Tuesday through the West Australian Cricket Association stating he had pulled out of the race for family reasons. "I wrote to the Indian Cricket Board 10 days ago indicating I was withdrawing my interest in the position," Marsh said. "I withdrew for the same reasons I stepped down from my role as Australian coach in September 1999 -- to spend more time with my family," he said. Marsh, who remains part of Australia's four-man selection panel, has three children including Shaun, a 17-year-old all-rounder who is part of the West Australian A training squad.
