Australia wins women's world series Posted: Saturday February 08, 2003 7:14 AMAUCKLAND, New Zealand (AP) -- Opener Belinda Clark became the top scorer in women's limited-overs international cricket when she helped Australia to 109-run victory over New Zealand in Saturday's final of the inaugural world series at Christchurch. Australia reached 214 and then dismissed New Zealand for 105 in 30 of its allotted 50 overs. Clark made 80 runs, surpassing New Zealander Debbie Hockley's record of 4,064 runs in one-day matches. She finished with 4,077 runs, achieved in her 86th one-day innings, where Hockley had compiled her aggregate from 115 turns at bat. Australia might have posted a higher score but after Clark was out at 176, its last five wickets fell for 38 runs. Fast bowler Cathryn Fitzpatrick knocked the top off the New Zealand innings, taking 2-14 while Julie Hayes swept through the middle order with 3-31.
