  Stage 10: Tuesday, July 21 - 122 miles Posted: Friday, July 10, 1998 Tuesday July 21 - The Pau to Luchon leg has provided pages in Tour history. Its major mountains, the Tourmalet and the Aubisque, have been climbed more times than any other Tour peaks and this day is sure to provide drama.
It's boulevard and the view of the Pyrenees. This splendid panorama was to inspire a famous quote of Lamartine: " Pau is the most beautiful view of the land, as Naples is the most beautiful view of the sea."
Its rich green landscape is encircled by high hills, Luchon, alias Bagnères de Luchon, deserves its title as principal resort of the Pyrenees. The Romans had made it into a thermal resort city. It is the oldest mountain stage of the Tour de France.
