Stage 14: Sunday, July 26 - 116 miles

Posted: Friday, July 10, 1998

Sunday July 26 - Grenoble has been a Tour finish since 1905 but the start, Valreas in the Cotes de Rhone vineyards, is receiving only its third visit.

Valreas (Societe du Tour de France)
Valréas

One of the principal towns in the Vaucluse department wedged in the Drôme, Valréas evolved into small industrial capital which preserved an important agricultural activity. Its countryside, which produces truffles and lavender, evokes the memory of the Marquise de Sévigné.

Grenoble (Societe du Tour de France)
Grenoble

A privileged stop on the road to Italy. It's imposing landscape, from the Chartreuse to the Vercors. Grenoble is, with Innsbruck, the only large European city embedded in the Alps. Spectacular strides in the development of the city have been made since the second world war. The current population exceeds 400 000 inhabitants.
