![]() Stage 15: Monday, July 27 - 117 miles Posted: Friday, July 10, 1998 Monday July 27 - Les Deux Alpes is a new peak for the Tour, hosting the finish of a gruelling first day in the Alps. The Galibier, one of three mountains on the 189 kms from Grenoble, is, at 2,646 metres, the highest of this Tour.
At the foot of snow beds, Grenoble is a city for sports, with a soft spot for cycling, since the creation of the Critérium du Dauphiné Libéré, shortly after the Second World War. The city launched the "Six-Jours en France". The numerous museums are the testimony of its cultural activities. In particular the Dauphinois Heritage museum.
Near the Massif des Ecrins and Meije, this modern ski station of the Two-Alps, the alp of Mont de Lans and the Alpe de Venosc brings together sun and snow. A new Tour de France stage finish, at the end of a great Tour mountain stage.
