  Stage 17: Wednesday, July 29 - 92 miles Posted: Friday, July 10, 1998 Wednesday July 29 - Aix-les-Bains with its Roman baths has hosted 20 stages since 1930 but best remembered is the 1958 victory of Luxembourger Charly Gaul who raced through fog, wind, and glacial rain. The 149-km leg starts in Albertville.
The new cultural center in Albertville was designed by the architect Jean-Jacques Moisseau and is situated on the place de l'Europe, the structure is divided into three sections: the dome theatre, the dome cinema (panoramic screen) and the dome media library.
The Lake of Bourget described by Lamartine is remarkable for its flora and fauna. Aix-les-Bains benefits from a mediterranean type of microclimate which adds to the charm of discovering and exploring the city, in particular a visit to the marvelous Abbaye de Hautecombe.
