![]() Stage 18: Thursday, July 30 - 136 miles Posted: Friday, July 10, 1998 Thursday July 30 - The Tour breaks into Switzerland for its 18th stage which takes the survivors of the Alps over one final mountain, Col de la Faucille, on their way from Aix-les-Bains to the watch-making centre of Neuchatel.
Situated between the Lake of Le Bourget and the Mount Revard, Aix-les-Bains is at the same time a prestigious thermal spa and one of the most complete tourist resorts in the Alps. This stage has often played a determining role in the outcome of the Tour de France.
Located on the northern bank of the largest lake in Switzerland bearing its name as well. Neuchâtel is one of the Swiss capitals of watch manufacturing and is a famous wine region. The city is also an important cultural center. The arrows of the church dominate a beautiful architectural panorama.
