![]() Stage 2: Monday, July 13 - 127 miles Posted: Friday, July 10, 1998 Enniscorthy hosts the start of a stage which will salute the Tour triumphs of Sean Kelly with a sprint counting towards the green jersey which he won four times. The sprint finishes at Sean Kelly Square in his home town of Carrick-on-Suir. The 200-km race ends in Cork. Next stop: France.
Constructed on each bank of the Slaney river, Enniscorthy played an important part in the history of Ireland. Its rich architecture, in particular its castle and its cathedral make it one of the most interesting cities in the country.
On the Lee, Cork, second largest city of the Irish Republic, is an important commercial center. With its canals, its lanes and Georgian architecture of its buildings all this adds to its allure and atmosphere, that evokes in many ways the Netherlands.
