![]() Stage 3:Tuesday, July 14 - 105 miles Posted: Friday, July 10, 1998 The Tour is in Brittany, the home ground of five-times Tour winner Bernard Hinault, and it is Bastille Day. After starting from the ferry port of Roscoff the race chases 169 kms to the south to finish in Lorient, France's biggest port.
On the northern coast of the Leon, benefiting from an ideal geographical situation and a microclimate, Roscoff, old port of pirates, is regarded as the garden of Brittany. It is also known for its medical centers for thalassotherapy treatments.
Take a scenic walk along the marina with its exotic plants. The quai des Indes is a reminder of the cities first calling and the reason for it's past prosperity as a port of trade with the East, at the time of the famous Compagnie des Indes, which Colbert supported the creation.
