  Stage 5: Thursday, July 16 - 142 miles Posted: Friday, July 10, 1998 Thursday July 16 - This 228-km stretch from Cholet to Chateauroux passes through the area where last year Cedric Vasseur became a surprise Tour leader with a solo of 147 kms.
A splendid night panorama of Chôlet, young and sportive city. Since 1950, the population of the city of handkerchiefs (it's specialty) has nearly reached 60 000 inhabitants, with 40% of the population being under 25 years old.
A city over a thousand years old, whose history merges with that of Déols, Chateauroux , developed around the Raoul castle. It combines the vestiges of the past with it gardens and a harmonious urbanization.
