Career highlights

1998: Winner Tour de France. Winner Plateau de Beille and Les Deux Alpes stages Tour de France. Winner Tour of Italy, and two stages in Tour of Italy.

1997: Third in Tour de France behind Jan Ullrich and Richard Virenque. Winner l'Alpe dHuez and Morzine stages in the Tour de Fance. Winner Rominger classic. Withdraws from Tour of Italy after a fall when cat runs across the road.

1995: Winner l'Alpe d'Huez and Guzet-Neige stages in Tour de France. Best young rider for second consecutive year. 13th overall. Bronze medal World Championships. Accident October 18, 1995 in Milan to Turin race. Hits car in downhill portion of race. Leg broken in two places.
