Stage 13: Saturday, July 17 - 236.5 km (147 miles)

Saint-Flour Albi
(Societe du Tour de France) (Societe du Tour de France)

Well situated between the hills of Lyonnais and dominating the plains of Forez, Saint-Galmier owes its reputation to the famous sparkling mineral water. Known already to the Romans, the water was finally bottled in the 19th century by Augustin Badoit, and has since carried his family name. Saint-Galmier is also known for its 15th century gothic church, a real gem for the period.

Historic and artistic capital of the region, Albi is incontestably one of the most beautiful towns in France. Its red-brick cathedral gives the town a certain Mediterranean look. Nest of the Cathar revolution against the Avignon Papacy in the Middle Ages, birthplace to the legendary 19th-century painter Toulouse-Lautrec, today Albi is the seat of the Tarn region.
