![]() Originally renowned as a regional center for dyes and leather goods, Castres has been reputed since the 19th century for its wool products. Birthplace to socialist revolutionary Jean Jaurès, Castres is full of beautiful buildings like the Episcopal palace which now houses the Goya museum. Saint-Gaudens, first gained notoriety in the Middle Ages thanks to its drapery and linen industry. A familiar stopping point for the Tour de France, Swiss champion Ferdi Kubler is one rider who is never likely to forget it, since it was in this mountain town where he definitively took over the yellow jersey in the 1950 Tour after the withdraw of Gino Bartoli.
