Stage 2: Monday, July 5 - 176 km (109 miles)

Challans Saint-Nazaire
(Societe du Tour de France) (Societe du Tour de France)

Capital of the marsh and flatlands of lower Brittany, Challans is a central agricultural crossroads town and commercial center known for its fairs and markets. It is here that the world-famous ducks of the internationally touted Tour d'Argent restaurant in Paris are prepared. Despite its efforts to remain competitve and vital modern town, Challans, nevertheless, has managed to preserve its traditional, picturesque appeal.

A military and submarine port, Saint-Nazaire was born in the middle of the 14th century and its history has always been connected to that of the navy. In addition, many of the world's greatest luxury liners have been built here. And more recently, these same factories have specialized in aeronautical technology. Saint-Nazaire, along with Nantes, represents the largest city in north-western France.

Climbs: Km 166.3 - Pont Saint-Nazaire: 1.2 km at 4%

Start: Boulevard Viaud Grand Marais
Finish: Avenue Léo Lagrange
