Switzerland's Zulle calls it quits during Stage 17
LAUSANNE, Switzerland (CNNSI.com) -- Switzerland's Alex Zulle pulled out of the Tour de France during Stage 17 from Evian-les-Bains to Lausanne on July 19, organizers said.
The 32-year-old Banesto rider had fallen behind the leaders during the tough Alpine stages. He was runner-up in last year's Tour and also in 1995.
After the race's 16th stage, Zulle was ranked 47th in the standings -- one hour, 26 minutes, one second behind leader Lance Armstrong.
