Summary:
Chasing Lance: It was only one day ago that Italian Marco Pantani said Lance Armstrong was "on another planet." On Thursday Pantani did his best to reach Planet Armstrong -- and then kept on flying to beat the American by mere inches to win Stage 12. Armstrong's overall lead, however, may be beyond the grasp of Tour riders as it grew to almost five minutes over second-placed Jan Ullrich, who finished fourth in the stage.

(Societe du Tour de France) |
This ancient Roman colony, once a papal possession, is as much celebrated for its market dealing in truffles as for its scenic surroundings.
The Mont Ventoux and the Tour de France go back nearly half a century. Riders first climbed the Giant of Provence, as the Ventoux is often called, in 1951 during a stage between Montpellier and Avignon (Lucien Lazaurid's was first to reach the top, and Louison Bobet took the stage), and for the last time in 1994 during the stage between Montpellier and Carpentras (first at the top and stage winner: Eros Poli).
Climbs:
Km 41,5 - Côte of Murs : 10.3 km climb at 4.4 % - Level 2
Km 75 - Côte of Javon : 7.6 km climb at 3.7 % - Level 2
Km 99 - Notre-Dame-des-Abeilles Pass : 7.8 km climb at 4 % - Level 2
Km 118 - Côte of Mormoiron : 1.8 km climb at 5.8 % - Level 4
Km 149 - Mont Ventoux : 21 km climb at 7.6 % - Highest Level
