Summary:
The plot thickens: Talk that American Lance Armstrong may have "already won" is abundant on the Tour, but second-placed Jan Ullrich showed Tuesday that he isn't quite ready to put up a white flag. While Frenchman Richard Virenque won Stage 16, Ullrich finished second and picked up nearly two minutes on first-placed Armstrong. The 28-year-old Texan, who finished eighth in the stage, now leads the race by 5:37 with only five days to go.

(Societe du Tour de France) |
Located at the heart of the Three Valleys Skiing Domain (the world's largest with 200 ski lifts and over 600 km of slopes) the ski resort of Courchevel became an Olympic sight in 1992 when it held the ski jump competitions.
Hosting the Tour is only one of the many sporting events to take place in the resort, as notably world cup skiing races each winter.
Morzine
Known as a summer resort since the early 1900's, this charming Savoyard village turned to skiing in the 30's. Olympic champion Jean Vuarnet brought added dynamism to the town in the 60's when he launched the resort of Avoriaz. Morzine is hosting the Tour for the 21st time.
