Summary:
Holding ground: Four days and four stages remain, but there already seems to be one foregone conclusion: Barring something disastrous, American Lance Armstrong will win the Tour de France. The 28-year-old Texan crossed the Stage 17 finish line with the leading pack and
maintained his 5:37 lead over second-placed Jan Ullrich of Germany. Holland's Erik Dekker took the stage win in a dramatic sprint finish, while Italian Marco Pantani and Switzerland's Alex Zulle both dropped out of the Tour.

Lausanne |

(Societe du Tour de France) |
Set in the most picturesque of surroundings, at the foot of the Alps on the shore of Lake Leman, Evian is as much known for its mineral water spring as for the leisure which can be found there.
World sporting capital Lausanne is home to the IOC headquarters, the Olympic Museum (where an exhibit on the Tour will be on show), as well as the headquarters of more than a dozen international sporting federations. Though a busy economic and financial center, Lausanne is one of Europe's most pleasant cities to live in.
UCI, the body ruling international cycling, is based in Lausanne, and 2000 is its centennial year. Lausanne is a regular venue for world championships in many other sports, such as ice skating, and every year it holds one of the most prestigious track and field meetings.
Climbs:
Km 54 - Les Mosses Pass : 17.9 km climb at 5.6 % - Level 2
Km 148 - Côte of Lausanne : 2.4 km climb at 4.6 %- Level 3
