Nantes | |
St Nazaire |
(Societe du Tour de France) |
(Societe du Tour de France) |
Birthplace of Jules Verne and Eric Tabarly, Nantes boasts France's longest tram network.
Nantes Football Club has won the French league title seven times, as well as several French Cups, the latest in 2000. A tribute to this sports-crazed town, the World Handball Championships are to be held there in early 2001.
France's fourth-largest harbor, St Nazaire is known around the world for its shipyards, where famed ocean liners such as the France and the Normandie were built. More recently it has turned to the skies, with plants where certain Airbus components are put together.
