Steven De Jongh takes Tour of Sweden Posted: Sunday June 14, 1998 04:04 PM STOCKHOLM, Sweden (Reuters) -- Dutchman Steven De Jongh claimed victory on Sunday in the Tour of Sweden for both himself and his team. The fifth and final 118.4 km stage offered few opportunities for the other teams to haul in De Jongh's 24 seconds lead. Countryman and TVM-Farm Frites teammate Jeroen Blijlevens won the final spurt between Uppsala and Stuttgart and the team controlled any breakaways on the flat terrain near Stockholm as the pace averaged 45 kph. Magnus Backlund of Team Sweden finished second overall, 24 seconds behind De Jongh. Marcus Ljungqvist of Canina Tollo was third, 35 seconds behind the winner. Results 1.
