LILLE, France (Reuters) -- French police on Thursday questioned the director of the professional cycling team Francaise des Jeux as part of a probe into a drugs scandal which marred the Tour de France.

Marc Madiot was being questioned at the criminal police headquarters in the northern city of Lille

Police had already interviewed him and Francaise des Jeux's rider Emmanuel Magnien after a raid on their hotel during the Tour de France in July.

Earlier this month a judge placed the team's Belgian masseur, Jeff D'Hont, under investigation on doping charges.

D'Hont is known as a close friend of Festina team masseur Willy Voet, who was arrested three days before the start of the Tour with 400 doses of doping products in his team car.

The Festina team was expelled from the Tour de France after the team's director confessed to providing banned substances to his riders. Several other teams quit the race as the probe widened.

Police questioned another Francaise des Jeux rider, Christophe Magnin, last week.
