1996 Tour de France winner Riis injured

COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) -- Bjarne Riis, the Dane who won the 1996 Tour de France, broke his arm Friday before the fourth stage of a Swiss cycling race, Danish radio said.

Riis reportedly broke his wrist and injured his hip and a knee. It was unclear whether Riis, who underwent surgery, would be able to race in he Tour de France.

Riis was on his way to Friday's stage of the Tour de Suisse when he fell off the bicycle when he hit a curbstone, Danish radio said.
