PARIS (Reuters) -- Lance Armstrong, whose US Postal team is under investigation for possible drug use, will not ride in France before this year's Tour de France.

Twice winner Armstrong said on his official Web site that he planned to contest four events in Spain as part of his build-up to his Tour de France defense on July 7-29.

The American will start his 2001 campaign in the Tour of Murcia in Spain on March 7-11.

He then plans to ride in Catalan Week at the end of March, the Ride for the Roses in Texas (April 6-8), the Tour of Aragon from (April 18-22), Bicicleta Vasca (May 30-June 3) and the Tour of Switzerland (June 19-28).

Armstrong has backed down on earlier threats to boycott this year's Tour de France and will attempt a third successive victory.

A French judicial inquiry into the team was launched late last year. Armstrong and US Postal officials have always denied using illegal products.
