KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) -- Enrico Degano of Italy's Ceramiche Panaria Fiordo outfit rode to a narrow win Wednesday in the second stage of the round-Malaysia Le Tour de Langkawi cycling race.

Degano squeezed past yellow jersey holder Jans Koerts of U.S. team Mercury Viatel, who came in second, and Massimo Strazzer of Italy's Mobilvetta Formaggi Trentini in third place.

The three completed the 226-kilometer (140-mile) leg in five hours 43 minutes 52 seconds, finishing in a close together.

Koerts kept the overall yellow jersey for Thursday's race when he recorded a total time of 10 hours 33 minutes 20 seconds, seven and 11 seconds ahead of Degano and teammate Gordon Fraser, respectively.

"We will try to keep the yellow jersey as long as possible," Koerts was quoted as saying by the national news agency, Bernama. "It's not an easy race today ... I hope everybody is tired too, so we will have an easier race tomorrow."

Thursday's third stage covers 177 kilometers (110 miles).
