Simeoni faces possible ban Italian Olympic Committee recommends suspension
ROME (AP) -- The Italian Olympic Committee's anti-doping body has asked the country's cycling federation to suspend cyclist Filippo Simeoni for six months in connection with the use of banned performance-enhancing substances. A committee spokesman, Claudio Meli, said Tuesday the cycling federation had not indicated when it would take a decision on the matter. The banning request was "relatively light," Meli said, because Simeoni, of the Cantina Tollo-Acqua e Sapone team, had cooperated with anti-doping investigators. Simeoni, a stage winner at this year's Tour of Spain, admitted to prosecutors that he has used banned substances such as testosterone and growth hormones, news reports said.
