Laurent Jalabert Posted: Wednesday July 10, 2002 8:11 AMCycling Weekly profiles the contenders for the Tour de France overall winner's yellow jersey.
No,he won’t win the Tour, or even try to make it onto the podium, but Laurent Jalabert’s classy stage wins last year (and the King of the Mountains jersey) offered some of the most exciting moments of the 2001 race. Despite his failure to race the Route du Sud, France’s last warm-up race for the Tour, because of an upset stomach, Jalabert fully expects to be doing the same this summer. Nor should teammate Tyler Hamilton, second in his first ever Giro and fully recovered from his broken collarbone injury, be discounted for at least a stage win -- and maybe more.
