Victory on Mont Ventoux in the Dauphiné Libéré was a
highly encouraging sign for the Russian mountain man,
who already tested Lance Armstrong’s patience by
sneaking off the front on the final climb of the Midi Libre.
A former Tour de l’Avenir winner, Menchov will be co-leading ibanesto.com with young Spaniard Francisco Mancebo, but his main objective will be a repeat victory on the climb referred to as the Giant of Provence.
