By winning the team classification in the 2001 Giro, the Alessio team cleverly guaranteed themselves a ride in the Tour, outwitting the likes of Saeco, Team Coast and Gerolsteiner. They also convinced Laurent Dufaux to keep racing, and with Ivan Gotti and Alexandr Shefer have a solid team for the overall classification. Cristian Moreni was well placed in numerous stages at the Giro and would be favorite to win a stage if he gets in the right break. Slovenian Martin Hvastija and Moldovian Ruslan Ivanov are also pretty handy. Others in the team are Davide Casarotto and Daniele Di Paoli.
