CSC-Tiscali Posted: Thursday July 11, 2002 6:37 AMCycling Weekly magazine profiles the teams racing to Paris in this year's Tour de France.
Bjarne Riis’s team features a curious mix of nationalities and riders but they get results. Last year Laurent Jalabert’s two stage wins and the climber’s polka-dot jersey helped confirm sponsorship for this year and supplied the cash to sign Tyler Hamilton. The quiet American did a good ride at the Giro d’Italia, especially considering he rode with a broken shoulder. Now it is up to Jalabert to do his bit at the Tour. Riis has made it clear that Jaja will be absolute team leader at the Tour, with Hamilton and Carlos Sastre as back-up and possible stage winners. Jalabert cannot really be expected to challenge Lance Armstrong but would be a good yellow jersey wearer before or after the first time trial. Other riders are Nicki Sorensen, Jacob Piil and four from Michael Blaudzun, Michael Sandstod, Andrea Peron, Arvis Piziks and Nicolas Jalabert.
