Haimar Zubeldia ’s fourth place in the Dauphiné Libéré was a surprise result for the Basque team but showed yet again that they are good at uncovering talent. With Zubeldia, Luz Ardiden stage winner Roberto Laiseka and other promising young rider Iban Mayo, Euskaltel will be going for stage wins in the mountains, especially the Pyrenees were thousands of Basque fans will flock to cheer them on. Last year Euskaltel angered the Tour organizers after Txema Del Olmo failed a drugs test for EPO. He has been banned from racing in France but the team still got an invitation to the Tour. Other Euskaltel riders are David Etxebarria, Unai Etxebarria, Alberto Lopez de Munain, Cesar Solaun, Igor Flores and Critérium International winner Juan Alberto Martinez.
