Rabobank Posted: Thursday July 11, 2002 5:28 AMCycling Weekly magazine profiles the teams racing to Paris in this year's Tour de France.
After years of settling for stage wins, Rabobank signed American Levi Leipheimer during the winter with the aim of going for the yellow jersey. The latest American revelation jumped to 18th in the world last year after a stunning series of results in the Vuelta which saw him finish third overall behind Angel Casero and Oscar Sevilla. Leipheimer will take on his former boss Lance Armstrong in the time trials and has been working hard on his climbing. Rabobank will back him in the team time trial and on the flat, with Michael Boogerd there to help him on the climbs. Erik Dekker has recovered from his crash at Milan-San Remo and will be looking for more stages,as will Steven De Jongh and Marc Wauters. Grischa Niermann, Beat Zberg, Karsten Kroon, Addy Engels and Bram de Groot are also named, with Marc Lotz as the team’s reserve.
