Telekom Posted: Thursday July 11, 2002 5:30 AMCycling Weekly magazine profiles the teams racing to Paris in this year's Tour de France.
Jan Ullrich’s injury problems have again wrecked Telekom’s season, and his recent drink-driving arrest has lost the team a lot of support, even in Germany. Team boss Walter Godefroot has already admitted that the team will be concentrating on stage wins rather than the overall classification, with Erik Zabel going for his seventh consecutive green points jersey. This year he will also have faithful lead-out man Italian Gian Matteo Fagnini plus Rolf Aldag,Danilo Hondo and Steffen Wesemann to control the peloton. As a result,Zabel must also be favorite for the sprints in the first 10 days and could even wear the yellow jersey if he takes enough time bonuses. Alexandre Vinokourov will be the only rider worrying about the overall while Guerini, Bobby Julich and Kevin Livingston are expected to ride strongly in the mountains.
