PARIS (AP) -- New challenges lie ahead for four-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong, who says he's hoping to tackle both the Tour and the World Cycling Championships next year.

"The 2003 season will be unique for me because I could go for another big goal -- that is the world championship, which takes place in Hamilton, Canada," Armstrong said in an interview published Tuesday in the French sports daily L'Equipe.

Armstrong last competed in the world road championships in 1998, the year before winning his first Tour title. He won the world championships in 1993.

"Nothing is for sure yet," he was quoted as saying in the interview, which was published in French. But he said he liked the idea of wearing the winner's jersey.

"To participate in a race under the rainbow jersey in North America is something that excites me a lot," he said. "It means it'll be a long season and that we'll have to plan it accordingly."

Armstrong placed sixth in the San Francisco Grand Prix on Sunday. A 22-year-old Canadian, Charles Dionne, riding for the 7UP-NutraFig team, won the event.
