CHAMBERY, France (AP) -- A French court will decide later this month whether to free Edita Rumsas, who was jailed in July after being caught with a stash of alleged doping products.

The court in this eastern city said Wednesday it will rule Sept. 26 whether the wife of third-place Tour de France finisher Raimondas Rumsas can be released from prison in the nearby town of Bonneville.

The mother of three was stopped July 28 -- the last day of the Tour -- by French customs officials who found alleged performance-enhancing substances in her car. She was jailed two days later.

Two requests for her release were rejected because investigations into her case were ongoing. Her lawyer, Alexandre Varaut, made a new request Wednesday.

Raimondas Rumsas, who lives in Italy, has been called in for questioning by French police but says he won't travel to France for fear of being arrested. Last week, the Lithuanian rider was questioned by Italian police in the presence of French police officers.

Rumsas was tested for doping during the Tour with all tests coming up negative. The Lampre rider has denied using drugs, saying the products his wife was carrying were meant for his mother-in-law.
