AVILA, Spain (Reuters) -- Jose Garcia Acosta went alone to win stage 19 of the Tour of Spain on Friday as Roberto Heras retained his overall lead.

Garcia Acosta clocked a time of four hours 24 minutes 26 seconds on the 177.8-kilometer stage from Bejar to Avila -- the final mountainous stage of this year's race.

The ibanesto.com rider broke away from a leading group of nine on the descent from the first category Seranillos climb with 55 kilometers remaining.

Spaniard Heras of the U.S. Postal team remains race leader, although he failed to open any more time on second-placed Aitor Gonzalez, and actually lost four seconds on his rival.

Gonzalez finished second after a late attack, finishing two minutes behind Garcia Acosta, with Heras fifth in a seven-man group a further four seconds back.
