The Dan Patrick Show turns one today, and who better to join and congratulate Dan than TNT's Charles Barkley.
Dan asks if its hard to play when the front office and coach are feuding? Barkley says he's old school and will play no matter what the circumstance. He also thinks Al Davis did a good job during yesterday's press conference and had some good stuff on Lane Kiffin.
Barkley weighed in on today's poll and wants to see a White Sox-Cubs World Series. Dan asked him if he'd like to see the Dodgers-Red Sox and Charles admitted that would be good. He also said Torii Hunter is too little to be an effective NBA player.
Which unknown NBA player gave him the hardest time. Charles says Popeye Jones owned him and it used to drive him nuts. Dan asks what it was like to play against Bill Laimbeer and Charles admits he was an underrated player, but never saw a cheap shot he didn't take.
Charles thinks Mark Cuban didn't need to criticize Avery Johnson because he'd already fired the coach. Barkley says its the same thing as Curt Schilling calling out Manny Ramirez weeks after he was traded out of Boston.
Could Charles play basketball after smoking pot? No, but he had a teammate at Auburn who got high before every game and was a great player. When he played sober, he could never hit a shot. Barkley has smelled pot on NBA players he played with and against. Charles smoked grass a few times when he was younger and all he wanted to do afterwards was eat potato chips. He then recalls the story of Richard Dumas who was given a $30 million contract by the Suns, but couldn't stop doing drugs.
Before signing off, Dan asked Charles if he'd appear on Dancing with the Stars, but Charles wants no part of that show because he has better things to do than practice dancing for 8-12 hours a day. |
