Is Ozzie Guillen a better manager than Lou Piniella?

With the White Sox set to kick off their first-round series against the Rays, White Sox commentator Steve Stone called in to discuss baseball in the Windy City.
The Angels had a big advantage against the Red Sox because Josh Beckett could only pitch one game, but Jon Lester's pitching and Jacoby Ellsbury's speed were too much for the Angels to handle. Stone thinks the Red Sox will win the series if Beckett can go on Sunday.
The White Sox are riding an emotional high going into today's series against the Rays, but Stone reminded Dan that momentum is as good as the next day's pitching. He thinks the Sox may use three left-handers in this series because the Rays have trouble hitting soutpaws.
Stone thinks Lou Piniella is more experienced than Ozzie Guillen, and that is the main difference between the two. Both, however, have a World Series ring on their finger. This season, most expected the Cubs to do well whereas expectations were lower for the White Sox. Guillen has done an incredible job of managing -- he's had to deal with key injuries and using young players without any experience. Dan loves Ozzie because he is such a refreshing personality.
Stone recalled his experiences with Harry Caray, and Dan loved that Ryne Sanberg spelled backwards is GRAB N ASS, which both got a kick out of. Stone laughed at Caray's constant mispronouncing of names, but gives credit to Caray for teaching him the ins and outs of broadcasting and is "one of the greatest salesman of the game of baseball." |
