Should CC Sabathia had an extra day of rest?

With the MLB postseason in full swing, FOX Baseball analyst Tim McCarver joined Dan to discuss the first-round so far and what to expect this weekend.
Did CC Sabathia pitch a bad game because he was on three-days rest again. McCarver points out that in 1964, Bob Gibson had four starts and a lengthy relief stint over a 13-day period. The point is that nothing has proven that a pitcher is more effective on four-days rest than three. It's just baseball thought. Same thing with a 100-pitch limit, which is just a random number that means nothing. Furthermore, a pitcher may have a different feel on different days, so it's pointless to put a number on the pitch count.
McCarver is not suprrised at the success of the Dodgers. He thinks Chad Billingsley and Jonathan Broxton are underrated. He also gives credit to James Shields and Jon Lester, both of who are effective but under the radar. Mike Scocia may not say it to his team, but tonight is a must-win game against the Red Sox because Josh Beckett is pitching Game 3. He also thinks the Angels place a high priority on aggressive base running, but Vlad Guerrero hurt them trying to take third in the eighth inning on Wednesday.
McCarver thinks the first series should be best-of-seven games, not five because the season is too long to be decided in such a short time. He thinks the Cubs have a better chance of coming back from an 0-2 deficit, but the Dodgers are a tougher team right now than the Phillies. He also thinks Dodgers fans are out of control with their praise of Manny Ramirez and it's a remarkable turn of events after his experience in Boston. |
