DP:How many Beach Boy concerts have you been to? KL: Just a few. I used to have bigtime stage fright. My uncle (Beach Boys lead singer Mike Love) would put a mic on me and make me sing.
DP:You were singing on stage? KL: Ya, I had to. My dad made me at early age ... scarred me for the rest of my life.
DP:Were you a taller version of Donny Osmond? KL: No, I won't even go there. I have no musical talent.
DP:Are the Timberwolves in the sweepstakes for LeBron? KL: I mean, we'll see. I'm not allowed to really talk about this (laughs) ...
DP:Of course, I don't want to get you in trouble with tampering rules. What does a team have to do to get a LeBron James? Like the Bulls. If you're LeBron aren't you going in to a situation similar to Cleveland? KL: It's going to be tough. For us, we have to give up more than what we could really bargain for to get a guy like LeBron James or Dwyane Wade. There's so many guys in this free-agent class that we'd love to go for, but drawing somebody into Minnesota, let alone us having really a lot of cap space and a lot of young talent, that's really not going to be enough for a guy like LeBron James. He's not going to want to come to that 20-below weather for all that time and for a team that's rebuilding. He wants to go to a team like Chicago that has a guy like Joakim Noah and a guy like Derrick Rose. They're already showing a lot of promise, really making an impact in the NBA and making the playoffs. So he can really step in there and win a championship right away.
DP: Is Joakim Noah goofy? KL: A little goofy, but he gets the job done. He did tamper with LeBron a little bit when he was yelling at him from the free-throw line when Joakim was on the bench. I think it would be a pretty good pairing with them two, kind of just going at it with each other in practice every single day.
DP:If you guys had won the lottery and you had the authority to make the pick, the Minnesota Timberwolves select ... ? KL: John Wall, no question.
DP:The Timberwolves have the fourth pick in the draft. What if they draft a power forward? How would you feel about that? KL: You know there would be a lot of competition. Obviously I wouldn't be too happy about it, but I'd go out there and get the job done. I mean there's DeMarcus Cousins and Derrick Favors that are pretty good players. If they went out and did that, then you never know -- me or Al Jefferson may be looking elsewhere come draft time, or come next trade deadline, or anywhere in between that time. You never know.
DP:What's up with your official NBA picture? Your face is red and you have a farmer's tan. KL: It's awful. I've told a lot of people in the media department to change that picture. Before I took that I spent two or three days in the sun in L.A. To look back at it now, it was the worst decision I've made in the NBA so far.
DP:Whose the palest player in the NBA? KL: Probably Brian Cardinal. He's also bald and if he's out in the sun his head starts to peel. I know that because he's a good friend of mine.
DP:Are you engaged yet? KL: Not yet. I knew you were going to ask that.
DP:The last romantic thing you did for that girl was what? KL: I had to take her to a college dance.
DP:UCLA has a prom? KL: Something like that She's in a sorority so I had to go to the dance. Luckily I had my buddy form Oregon with me who went with another girl as well. So we had a good time.
DP:What was your major at UCLA? KL: Uh, getting to the NBA ...
