Brent Musburger talked about Joe Paterno, who is a good friend of his. Brent said JoePa is fearful that if he stepped away, he would soon pass away. He has nothing else in his life. Just family and football. Bear Bryant died soon after he left football.
Musburger said that the Nittany Lions have an excellent and loyal coaching staff and it's great how well they're doing this season.
If Musburger had to pick one favorite to end up No. 1, he'd pick USC. He likes the current No. 1, Texas, but thinks the Big 12 schedule is too tough. After the Big 12 beats itself up, the Trojans will end up left on top.
Brent agrees with Dan, the preseason and early-season polls are deceiving. They're nothing more than predictions and they can end up hurting programs because of expectations.
Brent thinks the whole ranking system is flawed. But he does think that college football has the most exciting regular season because teams can't afford to lose. However, he's not happy with the way the BCS finishes the season.
Brent had interesting to say about the different conferences. He thinks the SEC might be a little overrated. Just look at the QBs in the Big 12. And Musburger thinks that generally the smaller conferences can't really beat the top two or three programs, but he notes BYU is a pretty darn good team this year.
Dan asked Musburger what one team makes him scratch his head the most. He answered Texas Tech. It has such a great offense, but just can't figure out a way to stop anyone.
