Why sportswriters can't be trusted to vote for awards

The Philadelphia Inquirer's Phil Sheridan has a major problem with sportswriters voting for awards and the Hall of Fame. He says writers are too bias and too often have their own agenda.

-- Sheridan said that some voters didn't even put Ryan Howard in the top 10 for NL MVP -- and the only excuse for that is a personal grudge.

-- Sheridan can't understand why baseball splits a guy's stats when he is traded from one league to the other in the middle of the season.

-- Sheridan says guys have agendas when they vote. For example, a Philadelphia writer left Mike Schmidt off his Hall of Fame ballot because he didn't like him.

-- As Dan points out, most MLB beat guys don't even see that much baseball, because they're only seeing their teams.

-- Sheridan says if a computer judged the MVP, sure, Albert Pujols wins.

-- He has a problem with Hall of Fame voters saying Barry Bonds was dirty when they had their head in the sand at the time. Sheridan says their opinions now shouldn't mean as much.

-- On a separate note, Sheridan says Donovan McNabb isn't the only guy in the NFL who didn't know about ties.

-- Sheridan thinks McNabb goes before Andy Reid, but McNabb has a better chance of winning elsewhere before Reid does.
