Three-year requirement for college hoopsters?

ESPN's Dick Vitale floated an idea last night: a player can go straight to the NBA, but if he doesn't make it to the pros, he has to sign up for three years in college basketball.
Dan thinks the idea has merit, but there are practical problems with it. Are schools supposed to hold spots for these kids?
Right now, the one-and-done system is like a one-night stand for college hoops with great players like O.J. Mayo, Kevin Love and Eric Gordon.
Paulie brings up a great point -- you no longer have rivalries like Bobby Hurley vs. Kenny Anderson. In fact, most people don't know many more players other than Tyler Hansbrough.
