Rich Rodriguez's Wolverines face Ohio State on Saturday.

Detroit Free Press columnist Drew Sharp has all the news on a tough season for football fans in the state of Michigan:

-- A win at Ohio State will not salvage the season for Michigan's Rich Rodriguez. Sharp says this is the worst season in Michigan history.

-- Sharp said he's never met a more confident coach. But he was blindsided by how bad his defense was. And he was stung by the criticism.

-- Sharp said Rodriguez never should have taken the bait and responded to bloggers by telling fans to "get a life." Rodriguez should have known to blow that off.

-- Sharp says Rodriguez will have a lot of pressure coming in next year. But he'll probably have to start a true freshman at quarterback. Then in three years, it's BCS or bust. Michigan is building a new stadium in 2010, and it hasn't been able to sell all of the 86 luxury boxes because of the economy. Yikes.

-- Sharp says the Lions have the same problem. For years, Detroit fans would spend good money to watch a bad team. But with the economy in the tank, fans can't afford to go to Lions games any more.

-- Dan and Sharp agreed Lions coach Rod Marinelli seems like Jack Nicholson in A Few Good Men during press conferences. Sharp says Marinelli is engaging too much with the reporters.

-- Sharp says that Allen Iverson has brought a lot of energy to the Pistons, but the most exciting aspect of the A.I. trade is his contract coming off the book down the road.
