CNBC's Darren Rovell says athletes are only good endorsers for the right products. Michael Jordan helped move Nike shoes and Gatorade, but not batteries or underwear.

Rovell said that Tiger Woods did nothing to help Buick woo younger drivers.

Rovell said he'd go with Michael Jordan No. 1 right now. With one caveat. When Dan asked Rovell about Dale Earnhardt Jr., he had to stop for a second. Earnhardt might be a real rival to Jordan. Rovell says that Earnhardt singlehandedly helped make Pepsi's energy drink a big seller.

Rovell said that LeBron James has done a terrible job -- he's picking the wrong products. Why would James promote Microsoft Vista?

On another note, Rovell said that he saw an NBA game in 3-D and it was sick. Rovell said if he was a league, he would be concerned about how good 3-D is. Who is going to want to go to the game live?
