FOX's Howie Long is one of the all-time greats -- as a player and a guest on the show. Here are some of the highlights from today's interview with Dan:
-- Long said the coverage of Plaxico Burress' shooting is out of control. Every time you turn on the TV something about the situation is being discussed.
-- Dan asked Howie who is worse for a team -- Burress or Pacman Jones. Howie said Jones was worse, because Plaxico really never hurt anyone but himself.
-- Long said that Plaxico is a tremendous player when he's motivated. Long said for him, motivation was a huge factor throughout his career. He retired because he couldn't convince himself to go hit someone every day.
-- Long said he was oblivious to pregame shows and the media when he was a player. But he know there was a deep throat on the team -- Matt Millen. Long said that Millen gave basically harmless information to people like SI writer Paul Zimmerman.
-- "Thank God we didn't have the 24-hour news cycle," Long said. He said the Raiders had lots of stuff going on, including numerous in-team fights. Long said fights happened all the time.
-- Interesting discussion on offensive players being as big has defensive guys. Long says that Lions quarterback Daunte Culpepper is as big as him, and Giants running back Brandon Jacobs is not far off. |
