Texas coach Mack Brown told Dan that head-on competition should be a bigger factor in the BCS rankings and Big 12 tie-breaker system.
"Old-timey, traditional football, head-to-head used to matter," Brown said. Brown asked the Big 12 to look into changing the system and add head-to-head as a tie-breaker.
Brown also said that the human polls are too emotional. The pollsters don't see as many games any more and react too much to big scores. Brown doesn't think playing for a large margin of victory is how most coaches were taught the game. He says it's disturbing when a 35-7 victory on the road is not impressive.
Brown believes the sport is changing. "It's like a reality show for college football," Brown said. Coaching changes are out of control and everyone is talking about the BCS and other off-field issues. Brown said everyone wants a playoff system except the people in power. He liked Dan's idea about coaches getting together to force the powers that be to institute a playoff system.
Dan asked Brown about his defensive coordinator Will Muschamp's future. Dan heard that Auburn wants Muschamp. Brown said Muschamp is not going anywhere.
"Will's going to stay here," Brown said. "He's really excited about it and the future. He had opportunities long before Auburn came up."
Muschamp is supposed to be Brown's successor at Texas and Brown says everyone is happy with that situation.
"Will has assured me through all of this that he only wants to be at Texas as the defensive coordinator," Brown said. "The day that I quit he's really excited about being the head coach."
Brown also revealed his rankings for the coach's poll:
1. Alabama 2. Texas 3. Florida 4. Oklahoma
