Terry Bowden says Jeff Jagodzinski had a right to interview with the Jets.

Terry Bowden just took over the head-coaching job at North Alabama. He still has a lot of opinions on the national scene. Here are some of his takes:

-- Bowden said the key factor in the Boston College-Jeff Jagodzinski controversy is the timing. The problem is we're in January and recruiting is a big deal. Bowden said Jagodzinski should have made sure he had language in his contract to protect him. Bowden thinks that coaches deserve the right to look elsewhere and grow.

-- Bowden says there's an understanding in college football. If a coach does poorly, a school will get rid of him, leaving kids with a new coach they didn't buy into.

-- Bowden says the bottom line is if Jagodzinski had returned to to Boston College without talking to the Jets, he would have been mad at the school and not been able to do his job.

-- Bowden thinks on a neutral field, USC could beat Texas. Bowden points to the Trojans' outstanding defense and moderately successful offense.

-- Bowden said USC might have some trouble with Oklahoma or Florida. Both schools would spread the field against the Trojans and take away some of their strengths. USC's defense is built for offenses that run up the middle.

-- Dan asked Terry if he would schedule his dad on the schedule. Terry said looking at Florida State's recent schedule, North Alabama would be consistent with their other early-season opponents.
