Dennis Eckersley excelled as a closer and starter.

Dennis Eckersley thinks the Indians' Cliff Lee deserves the American League Cy Young. But the Angels' Francisco Rodriguez deserves serious consdieration for MVP, since he's closer to an every-day player.
Eckersley, who was a great relieve and good starter, said he can understand if every-day players were upset when he won MVP as a closer.
Eckersley doesn't think Manny Ramirez has done enough in L.A. to win NL MVP -- although he thinks Ramirez has been incredible. Eck apparently said some critical things of Manny in Boston after Ramirez quit on the team.
Also, Eckerlsey doesn't think players stats should be combined if they are traded from one league to the other mid-season.
Dan asked Eck who he'd rather face: Manny or A-Rod. Eck said he'd rather face A-Rod, because Rodriguez swings and misses often. Manny is more disciplined -- but both are great hitters. |
