The Detroit Free Press columnist Drew Sharp joined the show to discuss the Lions' selection of Matthew Stafford with the No. 1 overall pick.

Sharp said Detroit fans are upset. They don't think the Lions can pick quarterbacks. And with all the financial troubles in that city, they don't like the huge money Stafford got. Fans wanted the Lions to pick linebacker Aaron Curry.

Sharp said the Lions had a lack of talent at every position. So management thought why not take the best available player regardless of position.

Sharp also confirmed that the Ford family has financial problems and the Lions can't afford not to sell out Ford Field. That means they might have to play Stafford earlier.

Sharp had a good idea for Stafford. He should offer free tickets to fans. And buy some American cars and give them free to people. He has to understand the pain people are going through in the Motor City.

Sharp doesn't think Stafford will start until later in the season ... maybe even not until after Week 10. That's a lot of money for a guy sitting behind Daunte Culpepper.
