Tony Dungy joins the show to discuss hot-button issues around the NFL.

Dungy is going to visit with Michael Vick before he leaves prison.

"I want to go out there as a friend," Dungy said. "I had met Michael on a trip. We played [the Falcons] in Japan and we had always talked about going fishing together.

"I am going out there to really talk about life. To talk about the Lord. I know he has made a profession that he has accepted the Lord into his life. Talk to him about what he's going to face. Most people are going to be against him. He's got to understand that."

Dungy obviously has Vick's best interests at heart. "I'm going to talk to Mike as if he was my son," Dungy said.

Dungy explained what has to happen for Vick to return:

"It's going to have to be the commissioner that's making the determination that he has paid enough penance and we're going to give him a second chance. Then it's going to have to be an individual team that says 'I'm going to take a chance on this guy,' because it's the right thing to do. " Dungy said. "Because it's the right thing to do. Not because of what he brings to the table. Not because of his athleticism. But it's the right thing to do. That he has paid his penalty, just like anyone else in society."

Dungy said he's given other players second chances and it's worked out well. He pointed to kicker Mike Vanderjagt. Dan and Tony pointed out that there are players in the NFL who have killed people and are still playing.

Dungy also said he thought Brett Favre would be back after the last game of the 2008 season and was surprised he retired. Dungy didn't think Favre wouldn't want to go out on such a sour note.

"I absolutely would not rule out [Brett Favre] playing again," Dungy said.

Dan asked Dungy if Edgerrin James was a Hall of Famer. Dungy said Edge was one of the best players on the best offense in the NFL for five years. Does that make you a Hall of Famer? "It did for Gale Sayers," Dungy said.

Dungy also brought an interesting perspective to the debate about Matthew Stafford's $41 million salary. Dungy knows the risk at the top of the draft. Apparently, the Colts' front office was split on Ryan Leaf vs. Peyton Manning.

Dungy said that Indy GM Bill Polian has so much success because he listens to the assistant coaches and gets guys that fit their locker room.
